The Largest Wooden Structure in the World

A Modern Icon Rising Above Historic Seville

Known locally as “Las Setas” because of its mushroom-like shape, the Metropol Parasol has transformed the skyline of Seville since its inauguration in 2011. Designed by renowned German architect Jürgen Mayer, this extraordinary structure quickly became one of the city’s most visited landmarks and a symbol of modern Andalusian creativity.

Stretching across Plaza de la Encarnación, the Setas de Sevilla are considered the largest wooden structure in the world. Built with an innovative honeycomb-inspired design, the monument combines bold contemporary architecture with public spaces, panoramic walkways, cultural exhibitions, restaurants, and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the city.

What makes the Setas truly unique is the contrast they create with the historic surroundings of Seville. Beneath the futuristic wooden canopy, visitors can still feel the atmosphere of traditional Andalusia, while above, the elevated walkways offer breathtaking views over church towers, rooftops, and the Guadalquivir River.

Today, the Setas are more than just an architectural landmark. They have become a vibrant meeting place for locals and travelers alike, especially at sunset when the structure glows with warm golden reflections and the city reveals one of its most beautiful panoramic views.
